To apply for a student credit card, you need to prove that you are over the age of 18 and actively receiving an education from a University of Tafe. Sufficient proof can be provided through a student card, or an acceptance letter from an educational institution. You may have to have been a student for over a year before you are able to apply for some cards.
You will be required to provide your full name and contact details (address, e-mail), as well as other information, such as details of your occupation (income, employer’s name and address), the value of any savings, investment or cheque accounts under your name, details of any existing loans, the worth of any assets (property, shares, vehicles etc.), as well as the estimated value and amount owing on your own home if you have one.
For some banks, they require you to have a savings account with them. This can be pre-existing or you can open a new account. You will need to meet their credit rating requirements, though these are usually not too tough for student credit cards applications. To apply for a student credit card, you will need to be either an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or else have a current Australian visitor’s visa.
